The second meeting was in the evening at which councillors representing Wards which are affected by the Highways Agency proposals for four-lane running at peak times on the M6 between J8 and J10a.
The meeting was held to hammer out a common approach ahead of a meeting with the Highways Agency on the 15th June.
“The idea is to get them to recognise the uniqueness of the environment around the M6 as it wends its way through our area” commented Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires after the meeting.
The following approach was agreed in future dealings with the Agency:
- No Emergency Recovery Areas where residential properties are close by
- More information about the structure of overhead gantries
- High quality acoustic barriers to protect residential areas from the use of the hard shoulder for four-lane running
- Assurances about the effectiveness of crash barriers
- Replacement landscaping to be in the form of semi-mature evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs
