Improvements to Bus Services across Willenhall Demanded

A longstanding campaign to improve the quality of bus travel in the Willenhall area is beginning to pay dividends reports Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires.

Willenhall Local Neighbourhood Partnership (LNP) had a series of meetings with representatives from Centro (the Transport Executive across the West Midlands) following complaints from regular bus users about the quality of buses serving the area.

Many of the buses were old and difficult for the elderly, Parents with young children and those with disabilities to get on and off.

The results of those meetings are just beginning to bear fruit with the introduction by National Express – West Midlands of newer easy access single deck buses on the 369 service.

Commenting on these improvements councillor Shires said “This is a step in the right direction, but it’s been a long time coming and there are still many routs across the Willenhall area which require upgrading”.

A  review of services across the western part of Walsall by Centro is about to commence and as part of that review Willenhall LNP is to ask Centro to take into account the needs of the travelling public in its area.

“Schedules and routes have not changed to reflect today’s needs” said Ian ”and if we are to entice people out of their cars and onto public transport then it’s going to have to up its game considerably”.
