Walsall’s Tory Cabinet plan to close Willenhall Leisure Centre as part of their draft council tax budget for next year reports Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires.
“Out of the whole of the 22 page Draft Revenue Budget for 2010/11, Willenhall’s Leisure Centre is the only specifically named building to be singled out for closure” said Ian.
”What I can’t square is cabinet member Chris Towe’s assertion that the budget will be focused on supporting those areas in greatest need. Willenhall has suffered more than most due to the economic downturn, unemployment is amongst the highest in the area, yet Walsall’s Tory council seems intent on stripping the area of its assets.
“We’re still trying to come to terms with the closure of Sneyd School. It seems that they couldn’t care less about the areas to the West of the M6″ concluded Ian.
