Abuse of disabled parking spaces is becoming a very real issue across Willenhall reports Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires.
“During the run-up to Christmas matters have really come to a head” said Ian. “The temptation to nip into a conveniently placed empty parking bay when all the others are full is very real, but they are there for a purpose. Life is hard enough if you have a disability without the added stress of not being able to access a parking space which is specifically there to make life just that bit more bearable” continued Ian.
It is the job of the council’s enforcement officers to see that parking violations are accompanied by an appropriate on the spot fine. There are times when the officer’s actions are a bit over zealous, but in the case of disabled parking bay violations, these should be enforced to the letter.
So if you are able bodied and make a habit of abusing the rights of disabled drivers beware; spare a thought for those less fortunate than yourself, resist the temptation and go find a legitimate space to park in, you’ll feel all the better for it, (it’s cheaper than a fine!)
