At 2pm today the long awaited meeting between representatives of long suffering residents affected by the Highways Authority M6 Active Traffic Management Project and a team headed by Graham Dalton the Chief Executive of the Highways Agency will take place.
My hopes for this meeting are that we shall see the Highways Agency team listening to what we have to say and understanding why people feel so aggrieved at the way in which they have been treated. From these experiences, even now there is a need to adopt a different stance.
What we don’t want to see is a robust defence of the Highways Authority position. There are still many lessons to be learned. It’s not just about what makes business sense, it’s also about people.
Most of those at today’s meeting can go home far away from the problem. Some of us have to live with it every day.
