The Development Control Committee meets tonight (Thursday 29th April), on the agenda is a planning application which, if granted, would see the demolition of the old Forest Gate Library replacing it with a small development of six 2-bed apartments within a three storey building.
A previous application was withdrawn as it contained eight apartments, two of which would have been 1-bed apartments which would have lead to an over development of the site with associated car parking issues.
The new application addresses these issues as well as dealing with the appearance of the apartments, containing the bin store along with car parking arrangements within the site.
Since the closure of the old library the site has been a magnet for fly-tipping and anti social behaviour affecting nearby residents. The Lib Dem Focus Team has pursued the council to tidy-up the site on numerous occasions (the latest took place last week) and resolve the outstanding planning issues. “The granting of planning permission would see the beginning of the end of a long standing problem” commented Lib Dem councillor Ian Shires.
