Police Target Anti Social Behaviour associated with Play Area

Anti Social Behaviour associated with play equipment on open space on the Forest Gate Estate in New Invention is a very real problem for many reports Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires.

A small number of older teenagers have taken to using the play area for drinking sessions which can go on late into the night. Their foul language and aggression is being targeted by local police and Community Safety Officers, but they can’t be there 24 hours a day.

There are calls to remove the play area which is well used by the age group it is designed for, those up to 13 years of age. “If only this mindless minority of older teenagers and young people could see how stupid and uncool they look perched on play equipment designed for kids much younger than themselves they might think twice about it” said Ian.

Local Liberal Democrat councillors are working with residents, and the Police to find a way forward so as to stop the anty social behaviour whilst at the same time not depriving legitimate users of a very much needed facility.

Ian along with fellow ward councillors Pete Hughes and Val Woodruff have called for a high fence to be installed by the council, one which can be locked after a certain time to keep out trouble makers.

In the short term they have also demanded that mobile CCTV camerers known as “Dome Hawks” be installed to monitor the area.
