Commuters in Birmingham faced morning rush hour delays 15 hours after police were called to a report of a man standing on railings on a bridge.
The West Midlands force was called to the area around a bridge above Paradise Circus near Birmingham Central Library at about 1555 BST on Wednesday.
Hostage and crisis negotiators worked in the night to bring the incident to a safe resolution.
But the man remained on the bridge at 0730 BST on Thursday.
