Arson Attack at “The Square” New Invention

Arsonists struck at The Square, Lichfield Road, New Invention this morning reports Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires who attended the scene shortly after the arrival of the fire brigade.

Fly-tipped furniture had been dragged under the steps leading to the flats above the Co-op and had deliberately set on fire by arsonists. “The frightening thing about this incident” said Ian “was that the lives of the residents of the flats could have been put at risk if not for the swift action of the Fire Brigade. The steps are the only means of access / exit for those living in the flats.”

This is a sinister escalation of the anti social behaviour which has dogged the area in recent weeks,

Ian has spoken with a number of the shop keepers at The Square following the incident asking them to search through CCTV footage for any clues as to who the arsonists were. He has also contacted the Area Manager asking for cross partnership action to prevent further acts of vandalism.
