It was a very good week for the “Friends of Rough Wood” group reports Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires.
On Tuesday they held their regular monthly meeting at “The Duke of Cambridge” in Coltham Road, Short Heath (a warm, friendly real ale pub) where they discussed planned winter maintenance within the wood which will help it on its way to Green Flag status.
There are also plans for local primary school children from nearby Woodlands Primary School, to plant trees supplied by the Highways Agency as part of the on-going work in conjunction with the ”Active Traffic Management Project” in the area.
Litter picks are planned and a walk through the wood between Christmas and the New Year is on the agenda.
To cap off the week the Chair and Secretary of the ”Friends of Rough Wood” John and Jackie Whitehouse were awarded the Green Award at the Mayor’s Civic Awards ceremony held at the Bank’s Stadium (home of Walsall FC) on Friday.
