Bus operators not satisfying passengers needs

Whilst out helping deliver “Focus” in Short Heath on Saturday I had an interesting conversation with a couple of ladies waiting for a bus in Stroud Avenue. “What’s your views on bus services” I asked.

That was the start of a lengthy conversation the gist of which was that they were reasonably happy with the Midland number 9 and the Sandwell Travel 333E services, “at least they turn up on time” they both agreed. But the same couldn’t be said of the National Express 40 service, “It’s times are all over the place” they said; which kind of bares out the feed back we’ve been getting from many bus users in the area.

However they saved their biggest complaint till last. “Why can’t one of these services go via the Manor Hospital on its way into Walsall?” A point that’s been made time and time again to the bus operators and to Centro.

Public transport should provide a public service and that should include links to hospitals and local GP’s. If the regular bus operators in the area won’t listen to the travelling public then perhaps someone else such as Arriva should step in and fill the gap. Any takers?
