The “Sold Subject to Contract” sign has gone up on ”Meadow House” on Stroud Avenue, Short Heath, Willenhall reports Liberal Democrat councillor Doreen Shires.
The former Council care home closed last year and has been the subject of a consultation exercise earlier this year. The resulting planning brief favoured residential development, though it looks as if it might re-open as a care home following refurbishment.
It was hoped that the site might become a much needed Medical Centre for Short Heath which currently lacks a GP’s surgery though this was dashed by NHS Walsall which felt that the area was adequately provided for by Medical Centres in Willenhall and Bentley. The fight for a Medical Centre in Short Heath continues and it is hoped that new powers within the Health Bill currently going through parliament will eventually see progress for the idea.
With the sale of Meadow House imminent pressure is being put on the council by Doreen and her Liberal Democrat colleagues to get the owners of the former Cavalcade public house site to bring forward plans to develop in order to remove what has become a “blot on the landscape”.
