Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West Mike Crockart has launched his No 2 Nuisance Calls campaign. The Liberal Democrat MP has written a joint letter to Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport and Lord McNally, Minister of State and Deputy Leader of the House of Lords, to demand that they legislation around cold-calling via people’s homes and mobile phones be strengthened and rigorously applied.
Mike Crockart said: “I am fed up of nuisance calls to my landline and mobile as well as unsolicited texts. People shouldn’t have to put up with this menace which puts many vulnerable and elderly people at risk of fraud just as much as if the crook or pushy salesman was turning up at the door.”
Mike Crockart added: “I am calling for the Information Commissioner’s powers to be strengthened to take in all forms of unsolicited contact and for there to be a single, simple point of contact for any individual wishing to protect their privacy from unwanted calls, texts, faxes and emails.”
The campaign is being supported by The Sunday Post. Mike Crockart says he has already been inundated with Sunday Post readers contacting him since the newspaper announced its support for the campaign. Mike Crockart said: “I’ve already had a good response and am sure the volume of people registering on the website will be overwhelming.”

Info from ex-call centre worker. The person you speak to does NOT dial any numbers. If you hang up, make noises or just ask for your number to be taken off the data base, they will call back. To stop further calls you have to speak to the MANAGER & ask for your number to be removed from their data base. I have been registered for 5 years with the TPS. Was ok. Now we receive up to 5 calls per day. Before we registered, we were receiving up to 16 call a night. When we complain we are told that they are REPUTABLE companies & the restrictions do not apply to them. Cold calling at door is just as bad. One company called TWICE a day for a week. We have a notice from our local council saying \No callers without an appointment\. This makes no difference.
