Last week we highlighted that the small parcel of land next to the florists in Coltham Road had been put up for sale.

Investigations show that the council no longer own this land. It was sold off some time ago without consultation with ward members and is now in private ownership.

According to the “For Sale” sign it is being proposed the land be used for residential or commercial purposes.

“Further development in Coltham Road is the last thing that’s needed given the ever increasing issues around parking along this very busy road. As if things aren’t bad enough as it is!” said Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires. “There’s no rhyme nor reason behind how the council manages the land and buildings it owns” added Ian. “Given the parking issues which are well documented, this land should never have been put up for sale!”

Under Liberal Democrat plans the responsibility for the management of the council’s land and property would de devolved to the local Town Assemblies
