Labour front line service cuts start to bite!

by Ian Shires on 24 April, 2015

150308_WN Falcondale PotholeLabour Budget cuts are starting to show through already. We are right at the start of the new financial year yet it would appear that the Labour run council has reverted back to the shove in a dollop of tarmac and jump up and down on it a few times method of pothole repairs.

The grass cutting season has started, Walsall has never been that good at this but the cut backs in Clean and Green appears to have turned what is euphemistically grass cutting into hay making. This has all sorts of issues for asthmatics and those who suffer from hay fever and the like.

150329_Clay HillNew Invention and Short Heath Liberal Democrat Focus Teams have seen an increase in complaints about fly tipping and littering. Only yesterday residents from Allens Rough drew our attention to the fly tipping taking place on the “Clay Hill” next to the now closed Allens Centre in Hilton Road. Walsall’s Labour Council has cut £25,000 from the Green Pathways project, the previous Lib Dem influenced Coalition administration had planned to remove the ground cover shrubs and brambles which hide so much of the anti social behaviour that goes on around the “Clay Hill”.

150321_Allens CentreWe all know now that Labour abandoned the Coalition plan to turn the Allens Centre into an enlarged Lighthouse Children’s Centre and Community Hub. Just to make sure the plan can’t be resurrected, Labour plan to demolish the building.

The tragedy of all this is that if Labour had adopted just some of the Lib Dem Budget proposals these things need not have happened. Instead Labour modified their Budget to the extent that the Tories liked it so much they voted for it. The rest is as they say history.
