Short Heath FOCUS Team call for coordinated action to curb traffic speed along Mill Lane

by Ian Shires on 11 January, 2016

150306 Police BaseWillenhall Lib Dem FOCUS Team calls for urgent action to curb the speed of traffic along Mill Lane. Short Heath Cllr Doreen Shires and Short Heath FOCUS Editor Dan Barker have called for coordinated action by Walsall Council and the Police to stop a growing problem of speeding traffic, “It’s just a matter of time before a serious accident occurs on this busy route in Short Heath” said Lib Dem Cllr Doreen Shires.

The FOCUS Team have contacted Walsall Council to carry out speed surveys along Mill Lane to determine how best to get a growing minority of drivers to respect that this is a residential road and not somewhere where they can throw caution to the wind as they use it as a race track.

“The problem is not just confined to younger drivers” said FOCUS Editor Dan Barker “Our observations over the past couple of weeks show that drivers of all ages and both sexes indulge in this dangerous anti social behaviour.”

Doreen and Dan are calling for Walsall Council in partnership with Willenhall Police to work together to curb the problem in the short term and find a long term answer without having to revert to calls for the dreaded speed hump. Similar problems elsewhere have been resolved by subtle changes to how traffic moves through the area for example the Lichfield Road in Bloxwich between the Stafford Road and Selmans Hill.
