Your top tips to keeping warm and well

Cold WeatherWalsall Council has issued a number of top tips developed from the national ‘Keep Warm, Keep Well’ leaflet targeting the over 60s, low income families and people living with a disability but it contains really good advice for us all. Keep safe keep warm….

  1. Get your free flu jab if you are aged 65 or over, pregnant, have certain medical conditions, live in a residential or nursing home, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person. For more advice or information contact your doctor or phone NHS 111.
  1. Keep warm by setting your heating to the right temperature (18-21°C or 65-70°F) you can keep your home warm and your bills as low as possible. For more advice or information contact Walsall Council Housing Standards on 01922 658373.
  1. Seek financial support. There may be grants or benefits you could claim, and sources of advice available to help make your home more energy efficient through improving your heating or helping with bills. For more advice or information contact Walsall Benefits team on 0300 555 2855 – local call rate applies.
  1. If you are worried about paying your energy or winter bills…Contact the National Independent Energy Saving Advice service on 0300 123 1234 (9am-8pm Mon-Fri and 10am-2pm Sat).
  1. Get your heating and cooking appliances checked – carbon monoxide is a killer. For more advice or information contact Walsall Housing Standards on 01922 658373.
