Bus users are being taken for a ride Lib Dems claim.

by Ian Shires on 2 February, 2016

There are a lot of disgruntled bus users in the north Willenhall area and our message to National Express West Midlands (NXWM) is ignore them at your peril!

“There has been a steady rise in complaints being reported to Lib Dem FOCUS Teams across New Invention and Short Heath” said Lib Dem Cllr Ian Shires. “Bus users increasingly feel that they are taken for granted by NXWM who have a virtual monopoly in the area.

“What really gets up people’s noses is buses just don’t turn up at all. Worse still buses are being terminated at New Invention Square without notice when the destination clearly says Wolverhampton!” Complaints are met with indifference from NXWM.

The 69 NXWM Walsall to Wolverhampton service is by far the worst but other services in the area are not immune to the problem.

Four to five years ago a major review of bus services was carried out by CENTRO and the bus operators. Out of this came some really positive moves which created a major bus interchange at The Square, New Invention. From here you can get to Bloxwich, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Willenhall, Bilston, Pelsall and Cannock. It should be a bus users paradise. Instead it’s turning into a bus users nightmare. People are late for work, late for school, late for hospital and doctors appointments. It is just not good enough.

Whilst residents in north Willenhall are being subjected to a second class service to add insult to injury just down the road in Wednesfield the 59 Wolverhampton to Ashmore Park service and towards Bloxwich is the 301 Walsall to Mossley service both of which appear to have convoys of buses running every few minutes.

Approaches to NXWM have met with indifference, at best we are told there might be a review in a few months time. Meanwhile there’s a lot of angry people getting more and more frustrated. Perhaps it’s time for CENTRO to step in and push for more competition?
