Water main burst causes more frustration for Sort Heath residents and motorists

by Ian Shires on 22 June, 2016

511646110More misery for residents and motorists in Short heath as burst pipe on the toucan crossing near the junction of Cornwall Gate with Lucknow Road sends cascades of water into the road.

Our eyes and ears in the area have been onto Severn Trent as low water pressure is affecting a large area. Severn Trent are supposed to be onto it (considering they have contractors working on a major upgrade in the area I’d be more than disappointed if they weren’t).

It looks like more temporary lights are needed to control traffic around the burst water main adding more to journey times in the area and creating more headaches for the bus operators using this route.

This is ridiculous now, it has caused so much disruption.. Don’t know why the water couldn’t have been done while the road was dug up for the gas works a few months back. Its silly and never see any workers actually doing anything to get it done quicker

      Hi Nicola
On the face of it what you say makes sense but unfortunately the people who provide our Gas and Water services are private monopolies over which the Council has no jurisdiction what so ever. It’s so frustrating for me as a councillor.

I live at 60 Lucknow road so have been at the heart of the disruption since November. The temporary traffic lights are now either side of my house so I struggle to get off my drive. Last weeks the workers from Amey told me the road was open for residents but not through traffic but tonight they have closed it again. We have lorries going down Martin Drive. This has to end. Who do I speak to for compensation for the inconvenience. I have school runs and child collections and work so allowing an extra time is a luxury I don’t have.

      Hi Nat
Probably the best way you can make your voice heard would be to use a service called Resolver which operates in association with MoneySavingExpert.com
https://www.resolver.co.uk/companies/severn-trent-complaints/contact-details. In the meantime I and my colleagues will continue to press both the Council and Severn Trent. As you probably are aware Severn Trent are a Private monopoly answerable to its shareholders. They tell the Council what road management they want in place and we all know the result of that….
