Travelers Update

by Ian Shires on 21 July, 2017

Just to give you a heads up on the travelers, Having spent most of this week getting them off King George’s in Bloxwich and of land in Pelsall we have now been informed that they have rocked up in Bentley Lane, Short Heath. They had already got onto the land before Police arrived following calls from the public that there was chaos in the lane, which is a main distributor road through the area, because one of the vans had got stuck trying to get onto the site causing tail backs. The lawn cemetery gates were shut as some of the travelers were trying to use the entrance to turn round in.

Walsall Council officers are ow beginning the process of getting the travelers removed from the site which will take a few days.

Can’t we use the same law that Birmingham used to evict immediately. Think it’s anti social behaviour laws ? Our garden backs onto that land. It’s a nightmare.

Good point and yes we do use it but it is site specific, it’s not a blanket rule across all open space. We will be putting forward this site as one that should be covered as it’s part of Rough Wood Nature Reserve. Thanks for your comment. Ian

As there is methane gas on the field occupied by the so called travelers as is evident by the vent pipes surrounding the field immediate eviction can be lawfully carried out as has happened in the past for their own safety.either that or wait for the barbeque!

I wish it were that simple but it’s not. There is a strict procedure that has to be followed in order to get them off in the shortest time possible. Any deviation from it means that we would lose the court order and have to start all over again delaying their eviction. We are exploring all ways of resolving this problem in the meantime council officers are working on your behalf to get them off the site in the shortest time possible within the law. Thanks for your comments. Ian
