Computer systems failure frustrates eviction of travellers from unauthorised encampment in Bentley Lane

by Ian Shires on 31 July, 2017

The process of moving the travellers off Bentley Haye, Bentley Lane was frustrated today by a major computer systems failure at Walsall Council. The IT failure created serious communications problems for most of the day. To make matters worse was that residents were unable to contact the council’s switchboard for updates.

Work to progress the eviction did continue throughout the day all be it that every step took much longer than usual. It’s at times like these that the real value of IT systems comes home to you. Late afternoon saw officers visit the site ahead of an eviction operation tomorrow. It is possible that the travellers could move off the site tonight.

The site will be secured and cleaned once the travellers are gone and a more long term plan is being worked on to prevent further unauthorised encampments.
