Good news on the horizon as plans emerge to charge utilities for roadworks

by Ian Shires on 29 September, 2017

Willenhall has had more than its fair share of disruption recently due to large scale roadworks being carried out by contractors working on behalf of water and gas companies so it’s good to see that at long last the Government has announced plans to charge utility companies by the hour to carry out roadworks.

Council’s are on the side of frustrated residents and motorists who have been caught up in the disruption of the kind caused by the mains replacements in Lucknow Road, Sandbeds Road and surrounding area and major water leaks on Cannock Road. “We are confident that these new powers will help keep disruption to a minimum from roadworks and keep traffic moving on our roads.” said Lib Dem Cllr Ian Shires.

It is crucially important that these powers are given to local councils without lengthy delays in the Parliamentary approval system. The sooner council’s are allowed to get on with it the better.
