One crisis after another – Time for more than a reshuffle – it’s time they went

by Ian Shires on 17 January, 2018

Theresa May’s Tory Government is lurching from one crisis to another.

We’ve had the East Coast Mainline franchise fiasco where Stagecoach and Virgin Trains East Coast (VTEC) were allowed to terminate their contract three years early. Then there is the ongoing NHS crisis where Trusts have had to suspend non urgent surgery and waiting targets to be treated in A&E have gone out the window.

There was Theresa May’s much heralded Cabinet Reshuffle where even Larry, No.10’s famous cat kept his job. And of course there is the ongoing Brexit negotiations farce. I have to say that this highly divisive, very time consuming and hugely expensive exercise is probably at the back of all these blunders as it has diverted an army of civil servants at the expense of everything else.

Now, after much speculation Carillian has plunged the job prospects of hundreds if not thousands of workers in peril as well as putting in doubt the future of many major public sector investment projects at risk.

This Government is an absolute shambles and internationally we are fast becoming a laughing stock. If it were a Local Authority there would have been calls for the Senior Management Team to be sacked and the Councillors being forced to report to Senior Civil Servants and the Minister on the progress of an agreed rescue programme.

Because this is the Government they are being allowed to continue on their chaotic path virtually unchallenged. In the national interest someone needs to force a vote of no confidence before the whole lot comes down like a pack of cards.
