Are you registered to Vote at the Local Election on 3rd May

by Ian Shires on 30 March, 2018

On Thursday 3 May 2018 Walsall residents will go to the polls to have their say about who represents them on Walsall Council.

In order to vote in what is arguably the most important election of all, residents must be on the electoral register.

If you want to have your say we urge residents who have not registered at their current address to make sure they are registered in time. The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Tuesday 17 April.

You can apply online at gov.uk/register-to-vote  — it takes just five minutes.

Local government elections select councillors who are responsible for making decisions about the delivery of services in your local area. These include housing, education, transport, planning, parks, leisure, fire and public safety, social care and waste management.

Poll cards began being hand-delivered to registered electors from Saturday 24 March.  If you have not received a poll card by Tuesday 3 April you should contact the Election Office on the telephone number shown below.

Time is running out to make sure you can take part in the local elections. These elections are an opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who represents you on issues that directly affect day-to-day life here in Walsall. But if you’re not registered by 17 April, you won’t be able to vote.

If you have turned 18, or if you have moved home recently, it’s particularly important that you act to ensure that you are registered. It takes just five minutes online and means that you can take part in this important election.

Residents who were eligible to vote in last year’s general election and whose details have not changed will still be registered to vote. If in doubt, residents can check their details by giving the Election Office a call on 01922 652502 or 01922 652503.
