We’ve had the last local authority by-elections of the 2017-18 municipal year and we ended with two stunning gains in Warrington and West Berkshire. During the year Liberal Democrats have seen 20 gains, far more than any other party.

In terms of net gains, we’re slightly down on last year’s record breaking year, but there were actually less by-elections this year, so as the following graph shows, as a proportion of seats up, we did pretty well.
