Gone Potholing – Coltham Rd Car Park

by Ian Shires on 5 December, 2019

Success at last !!

Finally work began this morning on dealing with the large potholes and drainage issues at this Council owned car park in Coltham Rd.

The repairs were well advance when I popped round to check in the late morning. The drain in the centre of the car park had been cleared manually then jetted which should help prevent some of the flooding which has severely restricted the use of the car park in recent weeks.

As can be seen from the photo the preparation work was virtually complete. Just as I was leaving more equipment arrived so hopefully the job should be completed by the end of today. Not a moment too soon as spots of rain could be felt as the first of the forecast showers arrived. Tomorrow we are due for rain most of the day.

Glad they had a rethink following my reply to their email telling me the work would be done tomorrow (Friday). I did point out that rain was forecast which would mean that the area would be under water again.

And before it looked like this………

  1. Matthew Griffin says:

They built better roads in Britain under the Roman occupation from 55AD to 400AD.
The Roman legionary soldiers – both infantry and cavalry built main roads to last, such as Watling Street, through Shropshire via London (Londinium) which was the Roman Capital of Britain since 70AD.

Potholes were never an issue in Roman times, so why are they now? It would appear that the Highways Department of Transport have lost the plot as far as road building and maintenance are concerned. Potholes have been a serious issue in the late 1900s and 2000. Never have I seen so many holes in the road in recent times!
