The legacy of D-Day – let’s not squander it

by Ian Shires on 12 June, 2024

Just a few short days ago, we as a nation along with others who fought and defeated the Fascists in WW2 gathered to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.

The events of that day saw the beginning of the end of the Nazis and their Axis allies. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day on the eleventh month in 1945 the guns fell silent. Those who survived came home determined to change the grand order of things.

I often wonder what they would think if they were able to see what we have done with their legacy. It has taken just two generations, led by Thatcher and her proteges to unpick the progress that had been made and return us to a state where the privileged are well and truly back in the saddle.

On July 4th we get a chance to put things right. For all our sakes, let’s not squander it.
