Tories retreat to Brexit to hide their Nasty Party image

by Ian Shires on 30 May, 2017

Don’t be fooled by Theresa May’s Tories retreat to familiar Brexit territory in a bid to regain lost ground after heavy mauling following the manifesto launch.

Brexit is no longer the main issue for most voters. People we have spoken with over the bank holiday weekend whether they be in the leave or remain camp have said that they agree with Tim Farron when he says that the people should have the final say on any Brexit deal, not the Prime Minister nor MPs at Westminster. What does concern them is that when you scratch under that smarmy exterior Tories revert to type. No matter how hard they try to hide it, they truly are still the Nasty Party!

Top of the list of gaffs by the Tories has to be their clear intention include the value of people’s homes to plug the gap in funding Adult social care. Not satisfied with just one attack on older voters they also intend to scrap the pension “Triple Lock” by 2020. At the other end of the age spectrum they have already had a swipe at younger voters by ending entitlement to Housing benefit to 18-21 year olds.

Theresa May has been accused of leaving Britain’s state education system on the brink of collapse with vicious cuts which in Walsall alone are expected to reach around the £19 million mark. More than 500 heads are so angry with the PM’s wilful destruction of schools they have written her an open letter demanding she scrap her £3 billion cuts plan, fearing it will put the futures of millions of pupils in jeopardy. The cuts “will put the stability of the whole education system at risk,” according to one union boss, while some heads have resorted to asking parents for cash to pay for basic educational materials.

Add to this the Tories plan to ending universal free lunches for infants and times are looking bleak for kids in the state school system. To add insult to injury Mrs May has managed to find enough cash to reintroduce grammar schools should they win the election on 8 June.

The message needs to go out loud and clear to all voters and that is this election is not a rerun of the EU Referendum there is far more at stake
