Some more feedback from last weekend’s “out and about” with the Focus Team

by Ian Shires on 19 March, 2019

Whilst out and about over the weekend we were asked by residents to look into a couple of issues.

The first was to see what 140119 Crab La floodcould be done to stop the frequent flooding that occurs on the bend where Crab Lane becomes Sneyd Lane. The photograph doesn’t show the problem at its worst, the flooding regularly extends the full width of the road.

This flooding has been happening far more regularly of late, so on Monday morning I went out to have a closer look for myself. All but one of the gullies on either side of the road were full of leaves. This explains why when I drove up Sneyd Lane on Saturday evening in heavy rain, water was cascading down Sneyd Lane past all of the gullies. The evidence has been passed onto the council and we have demanded that the gullies are cleaned and jetted within the next few weeks.

There has always been an issue on this bend, the drainage we are told does have problems dealing with heavy downpours at the best of times, so all the more reason for ensuring that drains are kept free of leaves and silt.

Another issue we were asked to look at was the poor condition of some of the footpaths on Kewstoke Road. In particular the section between Withywood Close and Kewstoke Close where tree roots have created a dangerous trip hazard .

Following up on the information that we provided to Walsall Council today they have said that inspections will be carried out on the drains to ascertain the extent of the problem. This is not to say that the council doesn’t believe what our photos tell them, it’s more to do with just how many drains in that area are in this condition.

The news on the footpath in Kewstoke Road is also positive. It is now down to be dealt with the first week of April.
