It’s official – ALDI are new Owners of Coppice Farm retail store

by Ian Shires on 5 September, 2017

We received official confirmation last night that ALDI have indeed become the new owners of the retail store on Coppice Farm Way near its junction with Essington Road.

Have to say that it’s not the best kept secret in the world. It was first muted back in June. It will be good to see the store back in use.

It will be interesting to see how many local politicians try to jump on the band wagon claiming that they played a big part in getting ALDI on board. Fact is it’s in private ownership and I suspect that the strength of local opinion played a big part in the outcome.

Now that the cat is out of the bag we would hope that the new owners will get on with the job of tidying up the site and doing whatever they need to do to get the store up and running as soon as possible.

“This is really good news” said Ian “good news for shoppers, good news for local jobs. There have been a number of false dawns on this site. Clearly Aldi have put their faith in our local community. Now it’s up to us to show them that their faith was well placed.”

i first heard this news a couple of months back but to be honest didn’t believe it but now i have read this i for one am quite excited will go down a treat here can’t wait to see it open

  2. Kerry says:

It will de value all the houses in the area!

    • Ian Shires says:

You might have a pleasant surprise, the opposite is usually the case. Time will tell.

    • Coggie says:

What proof have you got that an Aldi store devalues local housing. The socioeconomic group shopping at Aldi is BC1s which is no doubt similar to the homeowners in the area. Aldi is the country’s 6th biggest food retailer…on your assumption they must be causing a “property crash”.

  3. Ann Whitehouse says:

That’s great news. Just what the area needs.

  4. Adrian Stone says:

Thank god for that just what we need cant wait until it opens

  5. Allan Davis says:

Aldi will do well in this area.Budgeons was a complete disaster..Overpriced.

  6. Yayyyyyyy!!!! Fantastic!!!!@ says:

  7. Debby kelly says:

Absolutely fantastic just what we needed in the area. will locals get the opportunity for employment ?

  8. Lynn says:

Any idea of when it’ll be open? X

  9. Libby Moore says:

Heard about this a couple of months ago, but as nothing happened thought it must have been ‘false news’. So pleased the shop will be back up and running…..and I will certainly be patronising it.

  10. Tony Cannoli says:

Great news! Let’s hope it’s open by Christmas.. custard good, jam good, meat gooood!!

  11. Keith says:

In retail terms Co-Op and Budgens were a bit of a joke but Aldi knows what is required for success and I’m sure they will do really well here-and they’re needed in my opinion.
And it’ll be good to have the place tidied up and back in use. Great news! And to Kerry – Ian is right – they’ll ADD value to local properties (anyway – it’ll be better than a derelict site attracting anti-social behaviour and fly-tippers)

  12. sue says:

about time we had a decent supermarket nearest to me is willenhall or wednesfield the co-op on the square are overpriced and have nothing in the freezers i think this is fantastic and cant wait for opening day 🙂

  13. Ryan says:

That is great news, can not wait for it to open, anybody have any idea of when that is??

  14. Mrs Tracey Boffey says:

Hi when does new store open and are they going to employ local people and when to apply

    • Ian Shires says:

Not sure when Aldi will open their store on Coppice Farm Way but I’m sure that it can’t be far off given that they have boarded off the site. As to employing local people I am sure that they will give locals every opportunity to apply. The sooner that this store is up and running the better. as soon as we hear anything we’ll let you know.

  15. pauline statham says:

Can I apply for a job in your new Aldi coppice farm please. I am a very young 67 year old woman who needs a new outlook on my life. I think you’re store can do this for me. I can work for 16 hours a week and am very flexible. Please would you send me an application form at your convenience. I am so looking forward to seeing you if I have been chosen to have an interview. I always shop at Aldi and I am so happy to have an Aldi so close to me. Thank you . Regards
    Susan Phillip.

  17. Donna says:

Do you no when it will open yet before Christmas 2017 or after thanks

  18. Martin says:

    Go Aldi
A value for money Supermarket on my doorstep just what I need, and de value my house, can tell we didn’t grow up the same get off your high horse. This is the best thing that’s happened since the goal posts were put up on the field, does life get better than this!

  19. june Towlson says:

Any idea of opening date for Aldi?

    Thank you

    • Ian Shires says:

      Hi June
Have heard nothing yet as to what ALDI want to do ie refurbish what already exits or redevelop their site. The latter would probably require planniing permission the former wouldn’t.
      Ian

  20. Delighted to hear this. At last a great value supermarket and no more overpriced mini-marts. Aldi will definitely NOT reduce house values because the area now has the 3rd largest UK grocery retailer on its doorstep. It will have the opposite effect. Shopping at Aldi has reduced my housekeeping bill by 30%+, so I applaud the move and I won’t be too proud to shop there.
Now, what about following Bentley Bridge’s example and putting in a Costa next door?

  21. Kayleigh says:

Do we have a rough opening date yet? I for one am very excited!

  22. Vicky Hesson says:

Great news for the area. I lived in the local area from 1990 til 2016 and found somerfield, coop and budgens overpriced and unreliable. I wanted to buy on coppice farm but most of the houses were attractive on the outside and outdated inside yet they want premium prices.

  23. Donna says:

Hi when will the new aldi store be opening not herd nothing yet there is still no workers there what’s the update I live by there so would not mind updating please thanks x

    • Ian Shires says:

      Hi Donna
Aldi own the store. They have spent money on securing the the site but as to what they intend to do only they know as yet. They are a private company so unless they intend to make major changes which would require planning permission they do not need to consult the council.
We are trying to get info off them but I would think that they would want to keep their plans to themselves as they would be commercially sensitive and they would want to keep them away from competitors until they have finalised them.
Sorry can’t be more positive. I know how keen people are to see it open.
      Kind regards
      Ian

  24. Cheryl says:

I cannot believe this store is still not open when its been atleast 5 months since it was comfirmed they have purchased the unit. I wish they would hurry up and open as it looks a mess empty

  25. Jeanette Yates says:

Can’t wait for the store to open please keep me informed was hoping for Christmas last year come on Aldi

  26. Katie wright says:

    Hi ,
Does anyone have any idea of when it will be opening ,have Aldi given any indication normally they don’t take this long to get up and runnin .

    • Ian Shires says:

They have been deciding the best way to proceed, renovate or rebuild. My understanding is that they are about to make an announcement very soon.

  27. Sharon Morris says:

Have any decisions been made about the new Aldi opening on Coppice Farm yet?

    • Ian Shires says:

      Hi Sharon

The latest information I have is that they are have discussions with planners about their plans ahead of putting in a Planning Application. ALDI have said that they intend to demolish the existing retail unit and replace it it with one which fits the way they operate their stores. They are expecting to be in a position to open the store early 2019.

  28. sharon says:

hi, how do i apply for the job, where is the website for vacancy please, thanks.

    • Ian Shires says:

As far as I’m aware they haven’t started advertising yet but best bet is to go on their website and tell them you want to work for them.
