NHS at 80?

by Ian Shires on 7 July, 2018

Liberal DemocratsHad the following email off Vince Cable , thought I’d share it with you:

We are rightly celebrating the NHS’s 70th birthday, but we need to prepare for the NHS at 80.

The NHS and social care services are in a state of crisis. The Conservatives have left them chronically under-funded, and staff embattled and undervalued, while need continues to grow and patient care suffers.

The Tories are only interested in providing last-minute injections of cash to pull the NHS away from the brink of disaster for only a few more months. We know that these are just temporary solutions.

Meanwhile, the looming threat of a Hard Brexit is going to make things worse than ever, shrinking the NHS workforce and reducing funding available for medical research. In the event of a ‘no deal’ Brexit, civil servants are even preparing for a shortage of vital medicines

The Liberal Democrats have a plan to sustainably fund the NHS into the future.

• We will create a ring-fenced NHS and Care Tax to give these services the cash they need.
• We will make waiting times for mental health care match those for physical health care.
• We will fully integrate health and social care.
