Bill introduced to give health and care workers right to remain

by Ian Shires on 1 September, 2020

The Liberal Democrats will today [01/09/2020] introduce a Bill calling on the Government to offer indefinite leave to remain to foreign nationals currently working in the health and social care sectors.

Christine Jardine MP abused on day of husband's funeral | The ScotsmanHome Affairs Spokesperson Christine Jardine, who is moving the Ten Minute Rule Bill, has warned it is unacceptable that people who put their lives on the line during Covid-19 should not be welcome to stay.

The Liberal Democrats have secured cross-party support from Labour, Conservative, SNP, Green, Plaid, DUP and Alliance MPs.

Ahead of the Bill’s reading on Tuesday, Christine Jardine said:

Foreign nationals in the NHS have been on the frontline in protecting us from Covid-19, putting themselves at risk and in many cases paying the ultimate price.

Their skills have been vital to all of us throughout this crisis. The least we can do now is to offer them the opportunity to stay and the security of knowing what their future holds.

I’m delighted that so many MPs from across Parliament are supporting this initiative to support those who have done, and will continue to do, so much for this country.

Re: Refusal of application for 20m telecom mast 11 DARVEL ROAD, STROUD AVENUE, WILLENHALL
Dear Ian, We are facing a similar application for a mast adjacent to residential properties in Lambeth, London. I searched for details of the refusal on the Walsall Council website, but couldn’t find it. Are you able to share any information about your successful objection to this application?
    With best wishes,

      Dear Jude,
We gave the Link through to the Planning Application at Walsall Council along with Planning Reference No 20/0811 and advised residents to object using the following grounds
The reasons for objection should read as follows:

The proposed telecommunications equipment could be detrimental to the area by virtue of its siting and appearance. The proposed development could be detrimental to the character and/or the visual amenities of the area. The proposed development could cause demonstrable harm to the amenities currently enjoyed by the occupiers of neighbouring properties over and above a level they would reasonably expect to enjoy.

To view the application follow the link below and enter the Planning Reference No 20/0811 . http://planning.walsall.gov.uk/swift/apas/run/wphappcriteria.display

The officer used the above reasons for objection in her reasons for refusal as they are all valid planning reasons. On one of the applications we suggested an alternative site not far away and the applicants withdrew their application. We are still keeping a watching brief on this one as there hasn’t yet been a new application in this vicinity.

      Happy to discuss further.
      Kind regards
      Ian
