This weekend saw the first steps being taken to create the School Safety Zone in Cannock Road, New Invention, which was out for consultation in January.
Early Sunday morning saw contractors re-setting the gully drains near houses opposite the New Invention Infants and Junior Schools thanks to action taken by Willenhall North’s Liberal Democrat Focus Team. “Feedback from residents in the area showed that they were in favour of the scheme” said Liberal Democrat Campaigner Carol Fletcher.
However residents had voiced concerns about the state of this very busy narrow stretch of the Cannock Road as it snakes past the schools. In particular the sunken gulley drains which take a hammering from the many large HGVs using this route on their way to hubs in Willenhall.
At a site visit back on the 27th January called by Willenhall North’s Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires, it was agreed to include resitting gulley drains and other minor works in with the School Safety Zone scheme.
Work on the scheme itself are planned to be started during the upcoming half term school break. BT are also planning to do some work in the same area during that week so motorists should expect some disruption to journey times as temporary traffic lights will be in operation.
