Fly tipping eyesore – Lib Dems call for enforcement action

by Ian Shires on 22 November, 2017

Nobody should have to put up with this sort of thing day in, day out……

And unfortunately it doesn’t stop there……

Where is it? It’s around the shops and flats in Nottingham Drive. It’s not the first time there have been complaints about this site, it’s been going on for years. That being the case why hasn’t the council done anything about it?

Well for a start off the precinct, shops and flats are not in council ownership, they are privately owned so it’s down to the owner to clear the rubbish and keep it cleared. There in lies the rub. The owner of the flats and shops is known to the council but the land around them it would appear belongs to no one. Nobody will own up to owning it. So where do we go from here is the question we have asked. The place is a health hazard.

It has been said that the council should clean up the site, but why should public money be spent clearing rubbish off a private site? Clearing stuff off council land already costs a small fortune so why should the council add to that particularly at a time of continuing austerity when vital services are having to face cutbacks?

The landlord has a duty of care and ultimately the landlord is responsible for keeping his property clear of rubbish so Clean and Green along with enforcement officers from Walsall Council are currently dealing with this. The Lib Dem Team are pressing for enforcement action to be taken should the landlord not act responsibly by clearing the site and managing it effectively in the future.
