Refuse collection – struggling to keep up

by Ian Shires on 26 January, 2016

IMG_20160126_133028Lib Dem FOCUS Team Cllr Ian Shires has been up on Squires Grove today with officers to look at how pedestrian access could be made more secure. Whilst there he took a looked in at the bin store by the exit to Forest Gate. As you can see from the photo the problem of lack of capacity still exists.

“Not sure where the idea came from to reduce the number of bins came from but the outcome has is a nightmare as far as the residents are concerned” said Ian who has passed on the photographic evidence to Walsall Council and has asked for a meeting to discuss what can be done with the council working together with the management company to get things back to normal.

Refuse collection from flats has been an issue which came to head over the Christmas period and even though we are a month on there are still pockets across New Invention and Short Heath where bins are not being emptied for one reason or another.

Some of the problems we are told stem from the bin crews not being able to access bin stores or bins have overflowed so the bulk bins can’t be removed for emptying. Whatever is causing the problem the Council need to get together with Walsall Housing Group to resolve it!
